What Would the Wisemen Bring in 2009?

In 2009, there are so many cool toys to choose from for your child, and it is hard to figure out which ones are appropriate, fun, and will not get thrown to the side. If the wisemen had to choose today, which toys do you think they would bring along? Here is my crazy list of different things (and a Zhu Zhu pet is NOT one of them) that I think they might bring!
1. Seeds Family Worship: Great way to memorize scripture. It is Bible verses put to music, but it is done in a way that will not drive parents bonkers! It also comes with 2 CD’s, one for you and one to give to a friend! This is an awesome way to teach your child to think of others by giving out one of the CD’s. (If you give it to a non-believer, it is a great way to share the gospel)

2. Devotional Books: Great way to start teaching your child about daily time with God. You can look at some at the local Christian bookstore, but here are a couple of websites that have been suggested to me. D6 devotional magazines (https://www.d6family.com/store/magazines), CBH Ministries (http://www.cbhministries.org/kfk/home.php)

3. The Bible: God’s Word, it does not get any better than this! Impacts lives in so many ways! Millions of readers cannot be wrong and it is so popular that they are trying to sneak it into some countries!
  • Where can I get it: Almost anywhere
  • Cost: Few bucks to a lot!
  • Age: Any age, but you will need to read it to younger ages
4. Apples to Apples (Bible Edition): This is a hilarious game that leads to great family time and discussions. One person lays out an adjective (green card), and everyone must race to lay out one of their nouns (red card). With the Bible Edition, it puts a unique spin on things and easily leads to spiritual conversations. This game promotes a lot of laughing (which burns calories too!) and is a great family game.
  • Where can I get it: Mardel’s, Amazon.com, Target (Sometimes), CBD.com
  • Cost: $25-$30 (Amazon.com- $19.86 + Shipping)
  • Age: 9 & up
5. Hillsong Kids (CD or DVD): Great music for your kids to listen to that will not drive parents nuts! What else could you ask for? Be careful the songs are catchy, and you may start singing along with your child. We also sing some of the songs in the Blast Off! (Children’s Worship).
  • Where can I get it: Mardels; Amazon.com; www.hillsongmusic.com
  • Cost: CD’s- $8.99 to $12.95; DVD’s- $12.99 to 14.99
  • Age: Kindergarten to Adults
6. Little Praise Party “My Best Friend” CD or DVD: The CD or DVD is full of great songs that your toddler to preschooler will love. The DVD has great videos for the songs, and kids will love them.
  • Where can I get it: www.yancynotnancy.com
  • Cost: CD- $14.95 (20 songs); DVD- 24.95 (12 songs)
  • Age: Toddler to Kindergarten
 7. Veggie Tales: Great movies that teach some great biblical principles to talk to your kids about. It is great stories that your kids will love and age appropriate humor that even adults will enjoy (Really, the title of “Lord of the Beans” is humorous enough!). Mardel’s has some for as cheap as $5 and up for the newest releases.
  • Where can I get it: local Christian bookstores, CBD.com, Amazon.com, Target, WalMart
  • Cost: $5 to $14.99
  • Age: Any Age
8. Nintendo Wii: Ok, this is by far the most expensive of all the gifts, but you know that the Wisemen would love the tennis, bowling and boxing (hitting in love of course!). Of all the video game consoles, this is the most family friendly. Parents love this as much as the kids. There are parents (who will remain nameless) who will invite themselves over to play Wii at night after their kids are asleep. The games usually require much more than sitting down with a controller and provide great fellowship for families and friends! Also, only on Wii Bowling, are you able to get a score over 200! This is a great gift to give the entire family!
  • Where can you get it: Target, Walmart, Best Buy, almost any electronic store
  • Cost: $199 or bundles at $269+
  • Age: 5 years old to 100+ years old
I have a majority of these things in my office if you would like to stop by and see them. Please email me if you would like to stop by. I hope that this helps some as you look into what to get your children. Please do not let the stress of dealing with crowds ruin your holiday. Remember the Wisemen, had to go a long way on foot to take their presents!
